How to make the final choice
A product page tells you what a component can do. Your measured setup determines whether it belongs in the system.

Verify the brake hardware
Identify electric versus electric-over-hydraulic brakes, count braked wheels and axles, inspect wiring/connectors, and service brakes before blaming controller settings.

Choose a reachable override
The driver must understand and reach the manual function without unsafe distraction. A phone interface needs an explicit mounting and operating plan.

Set up under controlled conditions
Follow the manufacturer’s calibration and low-speed dry-pavement adjustment sequence, then revisit gain/boost when trailer load or road conditions change.
Safety boundary
Before you install or operate
A brake controller cannot correct overloaded ratings, failed trailer brakes, poor tire traction, incorrect hitch setup, or an inoperative breakaway system.
Use the exact vehicle wiring method and circuit protection. Incorrect stoplight, power, ground, or output connections can remove or misapply trailer braking.
Make adjustments only when permitted and without distracted driving; follow the controller, vehicle, trailer, and brake actuator manuals.
Test trailer brakes and lights before travel and investigate every fault, short, overload, disconnect, or inconsistent braking response before continuing.

Questions to settle before checkout
Do I need a brake controller for my trailer?
Requirements depend on trailer equipment, loaded weight, vehicle, and jurisdiction. Confirm the applicable law and both vehicle and trailer instructions; do not rely on a generic threshold.
Is proportional always better than time-delayed?
These three are proportional formats, but installation fit, brake compatibility, axle count, adjustment, and driver interface still decide whether one is appropriate.
Will a wireless controller work if the phone disconnects?
CURT states the Echo Mobile continues with the most recently programmed settings if Bluetooth is lost. Its manual also notes app and optional override-button limitations that must be understood.
