Steps

  1. Record steer, drive and trailer axles while connected.
  2. Disconnect without changing vehicle contents.
  3. Record the tow vehicle alone.
  4. Review calculated hitch, trailer and combined weights.

Formula

Hitch load = connected tow-vehicle axles − tow-vehicle-only axles; trailer total = trailer axles + hitch load.

Important limits

  • Do not change passengers, cargo or fluids between comparison passes.
  • Follow the scale operator’s instructions.
