Axle Restoration: what the result means

Use three comparable scale passes to document axle-load changes while following the tow-vehicle and hitch manufacturers' adjustment instructions.

Steps

  1. Record front and rear axle weights with the tow vehicle loaded but trailer disconnected.
  2. Connect the loaded trailer without weight distribution engaged and record both axles.
  3. Engage the system at the chosen adjustment and record both axles again.
  4. Compare the measured restoration with the current instructions for the exact vehicle and hitch.

Formula

Front-axle restoration % = (adjusted front − hitched front) ÷ (unhitched front − hitched front) × 100.

Important limits
