HOW TO USE THIS TOOL

Tongue Weight: what the result means

Use this for planning, then replace the estimate with a measurement of the loaded trailer.

Steps

  1. Choose the trailer type.
  2. Enter loaded trailer weight.
  3. Use or adjust the planning percentage.
  4. Enter measured tongue weight when available.

Formula

Tongue-weight percentage = tongue weight ÷ loaded trailer weight × 100.

Important limits

  • A percentage alone cannot establish stable handling.
  • Moving cargo changes tongue weight.
