HOW TO USE THIS TOOL
Hitch Rise / Drop: what the result means
Use on level ground with the trailer leveled and the tow vehicle loaded as it will travel, then select and install equipment only under its manufacturer instructions.
Steps
- Load the tow vehicle as it will travel and park on level ground.
- Measure from the ground to the specified receiver reference point.
- Level the disconnected trailer and measure to the specified coupler reference point.
- Compare the calculated direction with available rated ball-mount geometry and remeasure after connection.
Formula
Rise or drop = level coupler height − loaded receiver height; the sign determines direction and the absolute value is the required change.
Important limits
- Manufacturers may specify different measurement reference points.
- Suspension movement, tongue weight and installation geometry can change the final connected height.
