  1. Load the tow vehicle and trailer exactly as traveled
  2. Record the chosen hitch adjustment and all component ratings
  3. Keep passengers, cargo, fuel and scale positioning consistent
  4. Weigh the loaded tow vehicle with the trailer disconnected
  5. Weigh connected with weight distribution disengaged
  6. Weigh connected again with the chosen adjustment engaged
  7. Record front, rear, trailer and gross values from every complete ticket
  8. Compare measured changes with current vehicle and hitch instructions
