Steps
- Enter usable propane weight.
- Total the BTU/hour ratings of active appliances.
- Set an estimated duty cycle.
- Review idealized runtime.
Formula
Runtime ≈ usable propane pounds × 21,548 BTU/lb ÷ hourly appliance demand.
Important limits
- Furnaces and water heaters cycle; weather and regulator performance matter.
- Do not use this to determine safe filling or tank condition.
