HOW TO USE THIS TOOL
ATV/UTV Trailer Load: what the result means
Use before loading an ATV or UTV onto a trailer to check axle limits, tires, payload margin, and positioning balance.
Steps
- Enter machine wet weight and optional accessories.
- Add empty trailer weight and cargo bed ramps/accessories.
- Specify vehicle placement forward or rearward of the trailer axle.
- Review margins for cargo sway warnings (tongue weight under 10%) or overload warnings (tongue weight over 15%).
Formula
Total Loaded Trailer = Machine Weight + Accessories + Empty Trailer + Ramps + Gear; Tongue Weight is estimated using a physics lever model.
Important limits
- Physical trailer dimensions, hitch length, and tire size vary. Verify final setups on a scale.
- Insufficient tongue weight creates high risk of trailer sway at highway speeds.
